We’ve all seen the faux pumpkins that plug in. They’re cute, low maintenance & won’t rot leaving a gooey mess for you to clean. Well while thrifting I found a handful of these pumpkins for uber cheap. This guy was under $2, so I had to buy him. But he needed a bit of a clean up & make-over.

What You Need:

  • Faux Pumpkin
  • Aluminum Foil (go cheap)
  • Mod Podge
  • Paint Brush
  • Bronze Paint

First of all, prep by ripping your aluminum foil into small squares, roughly the size of your palm. If it gets all crinkly, don’t fret.

Start slathering Mod Podge on the backs of the squares and slap them on Mr. Pumpkin face. It’s best if you make sure to cover each piece with Mod Podge once it is on the pumpkin, so they’ll have even coloration. I have the matte Mod Podge but I’m sure any of the finishes would look awesome. Just make sure you end up covering each piece of foil, front & back. And over lap the pieces of foil, don’t try lining them up.

The face for me was a bit of a difficult part, but that almost all depends on what your face looks like. I found that longer, thinner pieces of aluminum foil seemed to work best when trying to get into those hard to get places. I’d suggest using your fingers to securely press it into the crevices.

Finally, I was done with covering the sweet pumpkin & applying another layer of Mod Podge (just to make sure it was secure). But then, I had to just do a bit more. I decided to grab some bronze paint that I happened to have on hand. If you don’t have bronze paint, I’d just go with whatever you have, cover it with more foil or even sneak into your kids finger paint.

From start to finish, this projects took less than 30 minutes & was one of those easy projects that I’d suggest you do with your kids. It’s one of those projects that seems IMPOSSIBLE to mess up!! Grab some foil & get going!

Have you done any fun Halloween crafts lately?
