As an avid thrifter, I am always being asked how I clean some of the not so pristine condition items I pick up for dirt cheap! I’m excited to get to partner with Art Of Green™ to share some of my favorite tips for getting your thrift scores looking good!

How to Clean Thrift Store Shoes

One of the items I notice people seem to veer away from shoes in the uncertainty of how to clean them up. I’ve been loving the Art Of Green™ wipe to clean the interior or shoes, they clean up quickly & leave the most AMAZING scent! I avoid exteriors as to not leave mark or spots (especially when it comes to leather/suede).

For the longest, I couldn’t figure out how to get prices written on the bottom of shoes off of leather bottom shoes. And the answer to these stubborn marks? A light sandpaper, simply sand the bottoms for a cleaner looking bottom. And for rubber bottoms, I can use my handy wipes for any pricing marks.

How to Clean Thrift Store Purses

I also  like to clean the interior of bags with the same wipes from Art Of Green™, they smell amazing but at the same time clean dirt on the interiors of my bags SO. WELL. They’ve gotten dust, dirt, pen marks & everything in between out of the liner of my thrifted purses.

How to Clean Thrift Store Books

Ok, this one is a bit difficult to figure out but it’s such an easy hack for making musty books less offensive during your nightly reading time. I simply take my thrifted books, place them in a freezer bag & put them in the freezer for a few days to get rid of the musty smell.

How to Clean Thrift Store Dishes & Home Goods

Most of the time when it comes to dishes, it’s very easy to just pop them into the dishwasher for a quick clean. But more times than others, the dishes are taped together, have heavy buildup from years of not being used, or are hand wash only so I’ve learned a few tips to make cleaning thrift store dishes a bit easier. To get off the gunky tape or gooey thrift store stickers off a bowl, I just take an inexpensive steamer & run it over the sticky area and wipe clean!

Recently, I found a gorgeous stack of dishes that I just had to take home but they looked like they could use a good cleaning with gunky build up. I wanted to give them a good soaking so I used the Art Of Green™ concentrate that I found while at HEB. I filled up the sink with warm water & 1/2 cup of concentrate to break down all the built-up grime on the dishes but are non-toxic.

My last tip for when you are cleaning thrift store items is to do it all in one area, I like to pull out all my items on my counter, clean everything at once so afterward I can wipe down the area. I’ve been a little obsessed with the whole line of Art Of Green™ cleaners since I found them at my HEB & there is even a $1 off coupon! Ok…and just a heads up about the scents, they smell AMAZING! My husband even remarked how fresh the kitchen smelled after cleaning up after dinner the first night I tried the Art Of Green™ cleaners. You can learn more at Art Of Green™!
