With being a small business owner (& lover of a side hustle) I feel like I’m always learning new things to make the many hats a small business owner wears easier! Things I wish I would have known earlier. So, I thought it was only fair to share some of the tips I’ve learned with you to make that side hustle or small business life a little easier on you.

Track your finances

Keeping track of your finances is one of the most important things & can seem overwhelming but it’s honestly not too hard once you make it part of your routine. Track your mileage, how much you spend on paperclips & every check that come across your bank account. A side hustle or small business needs to be treated with respect.

Share Your Business

You’d be surprised at how many people want to cheer you on in your side hustle or small business. Don’t be afraid to share what you are up to with friends & family. I am one of the first to shy away from opening up about what I do for a living or new business venture, but I’ve learned that most people are interested & would love to cheer you on! This is one of the things that took me the longest to learn, but as I share what I do more, I notice that my cheerleaders grow more & more! Having that support is priceless.

Create Financial Goals

One of my biggest regrets is not setting financial goals sooner. I just said “oh, it would be nice to make money doing what I love.” Once I became aggressive & knew exactly what I wanted to make financially (& realistically) it put every bit of work into perspective. One way to get help is through research. Regions Bank has an online library of Insights articles that offer advice, guidance, and education on a HUGE range of financial topics. And not only for small business owners but for every stage of life from creating a budget, to buying your first home, saving for retirement…you can find all the information you need.

Avoid Distractions & Create a Schedule

Distractions are so easy when you are self-employed or have a side hustle, working from home it is too easy to switch on the TV, tidy up, or take a long lunch, but distractions can easily eat away at your day. Batch any sort of errands outside of the home, do them online or outsource, if possible. I recently had a chance to learn about Regions Bank since they are expanding their presence in Texas. I was impressed with their 24 Hour Banking Vestibule with walk-up Video Banking and DepositSmart ATMs that unlock with a scan of their customers’ Driver’s Licenses. This way, their customers don’t have to conform to traditional bank hours.

Learn to Say “No.”

This was the absolute hardest thing for me to learn when I started working full time from home, I am very much a people pleaser & saying no is almost painful for me. But I’ve learned that the more I say “no”, the less overwhelming my schedule seems to get. With every small business you’ll have people asking you to work for free & underestimating the amount of time/work that goes into a skill, don’t take it personally just learn to say “No” & move on.

The Newest Regions Bank in the Houston Area is opening on December 30th 2019 at:

Lake Riverstone

18831 University Blvd

Sugar Land, TX 77479

Grand Opening Event: Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 10:30am-1:00pm

Here are a few features I learned about when I visited the new  Lake Riverstone Regions branch:

  • Regions Video Banking ATM (VTM)– these Video Banking ATMs connect customers with a Regions Video Banker via live two-way video.  Along with processing most transactions that can be completed inside of a branch, Video Bankers can help customers with account maintenance and general inquiries as well.  VTMs are available during extended hours on weekdays, plus weekends and most holidays.
  • DepositSmart ATM- For customers that do not need to connect with a Regions Banker in the branch or via VTM, I learned Regions’ DepositSmart ATMs can dispense cash, transfer funds, cash checks, make deposits and provides mini-statements at any time, day or night.
  • 24 Hour Banking Vestibule – Customers can gain access to the Walkup VTM and ATMs in the 24/7 in the Banking Vestibule. If the branch is not open, I learned how customers can gain access to the vestibule by using their Driver’s License to unlock the door.
  • Drive-Thru – The drive thru’s are equipped with Regions Video Banking ATMs and Deposit Smart ATMs to help with banking needs on-the-go. Customers can cash checks, deposit funds, check balances or speak directly with a live Regions Banker with the added convenience of never having to leave their car!

Instant Issue Debit Cards – With Instant Issue Debit Cards, customers can walk into any Regions branch in Houston and walk out with a new Visa ® CheckCard during the same visit. If a customer misplaces their card, experiences fraud, or needs to replace their check card for any reason, the branch can issue a new one the same day.
