Raise your hand if you are also ALWAYS last minute with your costumes? Ok, so that’s about everyone here right? Nice, nice…well I put together a costume that was insanely quick for a DIY costume but OH SO CUTE! First thing you need to do? Raid your recycling, if you’re anything like me, you have a stash of Amazon smile boxes & those will work perfectly for this DIY Boxtume! And, for anything else you need, you can order from Amazon and Prime members can enjoy fast, free shipping so you can make this costume in no time! The sky’s the limit with these adorable paper doll costumes since you can create whatever dream outfit you want!

Materials used:

Amazon smile boxes
Pencil
Scissors
Spray paint
Hot Glue Gun
Thick marker
Ribbon
Belt
Heavy duty tape

First, I drew outlines of tops, skirts, bows onto cardboard a bit larger than I thought I would need (you could even trace your own clothes for a sizing idea!) so I was able to trim down as needed. I stayed away from making anything look too square since I am going for paper dolls & not robots for this costume.

After I created all the pieces, I cut them out & held them up to my body and my daughter’s to trim off anything that was too long/bulky and would keep us from comfortably wearing the costumes. I also cut out several pairs of rectangles for the paper doll fold over tabs.

Next up, I spray painted each piece. The clothes were all fun pink spray paint we already had on hand while the tabs are white. After all the pieces were dry, I took a THICK marker to outline the edges of all the pieces along with black detailing.

For the skirt I simply attached a belt by duct taping it to the interior of the cardboard and the belt closed on my backside. And for the top I superglued ribbon in a halter style to just slip it over our heads like a giant necklace. Seriously, so dang easy & the ways you can customize are endless! If you try this, I would absolutely love a picture of you or your kid dresses as a paper doll!
