On August 6th, I started Opting in for Optimism with Frost Bank & I wanted to pop in to let y’all know how it’s going with the challenge. This challenge has been difficult at times with remembering to do it because I am in the midst of back to school with is always a CRAZY time of year, so whenever I’ve missed a challenge I’ve just made it up on another day.

It’s Not About You

Removing the “me” mentality really makes you happier, a lot of the challenges have dealt with serving others & I am happy to oblige. The less time you think about yourself & the good you can do for others, the better. One of my favorite challenges is probably one of the easiest for anyone who isn’t an extrovert, leaving sweet notes on cars. When you see a note on your car, the first thing you probably think is “Oh man did someone hit me?” but then to open a note that reads “I hope you have an amazing day!”….well that’s pretty darn cool!

And another introvert way to do something kind? Pay for the coffee of someone behind you in the drive through or when you go out give your server an extra generous tip.

Seasons change

The thing is…every trouble you have, eventually it won’t be so bad. Think of every trouble you’ve had in the past, it’s gotten better or doesn’t even pass through your mind anymore. One of the most important things I tell myself when going through anything is “This is just a season” & I go into survival mode 😉

During this challenge we had our A/C & internet go out several times where I had to keep blocking off enter days to have repairs on them, try to figure out what was wrong, spend lots of money and just create a big headache. And it didn’t help that it was hot as can be in our house, that made me extra cranky. But I kept telling myself that it was just a moment, we’d be back to normal eventually & I was blessed to work from home so I could easily move my schedule around for soonest repair times.

Take In The Small Things

So cliche right? But when your days get hard, it’s nice to have a list of things that make life good ALWAYS. Some of my favorites are my family, pretty flowers, good food & music. Keeping the good things in mind & close by can really keep life sane. I think that my kid’s put this in perspective for me the most because they truly find joy in the smallest things on a daily basis.

Just this evening, Micah saw that the backyard was illuminated in a pink film. We stepped in our backyard before dinner to enjoy the biggest pink clouds in the prettiest of a blue sky & talked about how wonderful it would be if it was all made of cotton candy! I mean that moment could have been lost if I would have just said “yeah yeah a pink sky, we need to eat dinner already”

I hope you’re playing along with the Opting in for Optimism with Frost Bank.
