While shopping at the Family Thrift Center Outlet last month with Too Cheap Blondes I found two fur jackets. Outdated, giant shoulder pad fur jackets.
For $2 a piece.
Here’s a before in all it’s shoulder pad goodness. Don’t mind the cat.
So I grabbed them as quick as my grubby little hands possibly could. I thought I was going to make pillow covers or recover one of the many furniture pieces sitting in my garage or closets. Instead I chopped off the arms, which took me a few weeks to even do because I feared ruining the jackets & making them completely unusable. After cutting an arm off & figure a few things out I had it figured out!!
After using my seam ripper on the fabrics, I cut out the bulky shoulder pads out & then cut off the sleeves. WARNING, fur fluff will go everywhere. You might inhale it & think you are dying because it is trying to suffocate you. Stay calm. And exhale deeply & dramatically.
It’s a simple hand sewing project of rolling the sleeves over & quickly cleaning it up. I am by no means a seamstress, so if I can figure it out pretty much anyone can. Hopefully with this cooler weather I can get some shots of it in use!!
I didn’t at all waste with these jackets, just wait until you see what I did with the sleeves!! Here’s a hint…I didn’t make leg warmers 😉
